Relationships in a World of Individualism

  • rWorld

The rWorld is about more than Dale Kuehne's book Sex and the iWorld.
The rWorld is a New England based, non-profit (in formation), that is composed of a growing number of people and organizations from many faith and ideological backgrounds worldwide. We believe that much of the fulfillment for which women and men are looking can be found by enhancing the quality of our relationships. While the individual freedom we enjoy in the West is a gift, the love and intimacy for which humans yearn will not be found in self-serving materialism or hedonism, but in a variety of healthy relationships.

In this blog I'm highlighting signposts of the world in which we presently reside as a means of helping promote a civil, and meaningful dialogue about what kind of world in which we wish to live. I am particularly interested in exploring how might we reconcile the individual good and the common good, and where reconciliation isn’t possible, which should take precedence and why.

Trump’s First 100 Days: Lonely Like America

Posted by Dale Kuehne on April 27, 2017

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) today published my editorial on Trump’s first 100 days.

http://www.abc.net.au/religion/articles/2017/04/28/4660433.htm

For we are lonely like America
Land of less and more
Lonely like America
Mythic Graceland tour
The pioneers and racketeers
Sepia wagon trains
Across the Midwest plain

Lonely like America
The hustler and the free
Lonely like America
From sea to shining sea
The flag that’s draped round the brave
Stars and stripes of deep dismay
Simply not having a nice day
We are lonely we are America
Lonely like America

Duck Dynasty and Free Speech: Lonely Like America

Posted by Dale Kuehne on December 19, 2013

News Flash: Duck Dynasty clan leader Phil Robertson is suspended from his clan’s reality TV show by A&E network for saying what he believes about sexual morality.

Lonely like America.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/duck-dynastys-phil-robertson-indefinite-666808

I believe A&E is free to do what it wishes in relation to the show.

I believe Phil Robertson and his family are free to do what they wish in relation to the show.

I believe we are missing the deeper issue.

The deeper issue is that we are a nation desperate for a conversation.

A conversation about all things and ultimate things.

Instead people are dismissed without a hearing.

Lonely like America.

And reality shows can’t be real.

Lonely like America.

We can’t talk to each other anymore about things that matter.

Lonely like America.

Redwood forest, gulf stream water,
Stallion wild, big country sky
Cactus sculptures, widowed prairies
New York rains, and Texas dry
Frontier boom-towns of displacement
Scored a patriotic win
Your money bearing Rushmore’s giants
But your dollar’s paper-thin

I’m lonely like America
Land of less and more
Lonely like America
Mythic, Graceland tour
The pioneers and racketeers
Sepia wagon trains
Across the Midwest plain.
Lonely like America

Norma Desmond’s withered mansion
Travis Bickle’s raging streets
Martin Luther King’s last journey
From Memphis for the mercy seat
And now the curse of Steinbeck’s offspring
The poor foreclosed and left to bleed
A wounded bear, a tethered eagle
Are in a cage of make believe

I’m lonely like America
Land of less and more
Lonely like America
Mythic, Graceland tour
The pioneers and racketeers
Sepia wagon trains
Across the Midwest plain.
Lonely like America

But I know you’ve seen the mountain
You’ve breathed the words of destiny
Abe Lincoln calling to this nation
To ring the bell of liberty
To ring that bell called liberty
To ring it out for you and me

For we are lonely like America
Land of less and more
Lonely like America
Mythic Graceland tour
The pioneers and racketeers
Sepia wagon trains
Across the Midwest plain

Lonely like America
The hustler and the free
Lonely like America
From sea to shining sea
The flag that’s draped round the brave
Stars and stripes of deep dismay
Simply not having a nice day
We are lonely we are America
Lonely like America
