Relationships in a World of Individualism

  • rWorld

The rWorld is about more than Dale Kuehne's book Sex and the iWorld.
The rWorld is a New England based, non-profit (in formation), that is composed of a growing number of people and organizations from many faith and ideological backgrounds worldwide. We believe that much of the fulfillment for which women and men are looking can be found by enhancing the quality of our relationships. While the individual freedom we enjoy in the West is a gift, the love and intimacy for which humans yearn will not be found in self-serving materialism or hedonism, but in a variety of healthy relationships.

    Sex & the iWorld

Professor of Politics and The Richard L. Bready Chair for Ethics, Economics, and the Common Good at Saint Anselm College, Manchester, NH.

In this blog I'm highlighting signposts of the world in which we presently reside as a means of helping promote a civil, and meaningful dialogue about what kind of world in which we wish to live. I am particularly interested in exploring how might we reconcile the individual good and the common good, and where reconciliation isn’t possible, which should take precedence and why.

Tanya Harding as Role Model for Hockey Parent

Posted by Dale Kuehne on March 2, 2012

For those of you who remember the lengths to which figure skater Tanya Harding went to attempt to keep Nancy Kerrigan out of the Olympics, by, unsuccessfully, hiring a thug to attack her, you will here find a Massachusetts hockey parent channelling Tanya by making use of laser optics to help fuel his daughter’s team to victory.

Let it never be said that children have cornered the market on adolescence.

that girl’s kind of a sideshow
she wears sequins and pink bows
she’s always coming in last place
cuz her whole life is a disgrace

and now they’ll never be best friends
think she’s gotta cheat to make it
cheating all the time
past the point of reason
now she’ll never make the cut
she was never friends with nancy

she’s always walking the tightrope
but this game is too cutthroat
she’s gonna break under pressure
that’s cuz she wants all the treasure

and now they’ll never be best friends
think she’s gotta cheat to make it
cheating all the time
past the point of reason
now she’ll never make the cut
she was never friends with nancy

well did she tell you what she did?
oh no she didn’t! no she didn’t!
i bet i couldn’t believe it!
i bet i couldn’t believe it!
how did a girl get so sour?
i don’t know. i don’t know.
she wasn’t paid by the hour.

and now they’ll never be best friends
think she’s gotta cheat to make it
cheating all the time
past the point of reason
now she’ll never make the cut
she was never friends with nancy

she was never cool with nancy
now they’ll never be best friends
